Becoming ever more popular they are attractive, elegant and sought after. This classic style is associated particularly with the reign of Louis Philippe.

As with all our furniture the classic Lits en Bateaux often referred to as the French Sleigh Bed is traditionally crafted, hand carved from swietenia mahogany 'Brazilian mahogany' rather than Lauan Almon, Mayapis or khaya etc- see our home page for further info.

It remains close to the classic design even down to the custom made antique style bed bolts. This is a design available from many sources with varying degrees of quality. No corners are cut in producing the Heirloom Lits en Bateaux.

Our sleigh bed has the same 8 step finish taking a week to complete, as opposed to the cheaper and quicker wax and stain process taking just hours that dominates the market place. This means the grain and character is showcased and drawn forward.

Also the bed is protected by a hard shell against moisture fluctuations that can affect the structural integrity of any timber and does not require regular elbow grease intensive maintenance with bees wax. Our finish and choice of mahogany means the beds and furniture do cost more to produce but the results are dramatic both in appearence and longevity and worth every penny and much more!

Sleigh Bedside Cabinets

Hand made bedside cabinets of a more contemporary design to match the lits en bateaux sleigh bed with a matching chest of drawers though chosen by many to go with other beds in our range. Cabinet chassis traditional construction with dovetailed joints and solid timber floating panel drawer base.

Chest area below secret drawer sold as pair only as left and right sided.

Made from professionally kiln dried swietenia mahogany (brazilian strain mahogany) taken from sustainable plantations. Finished with our unique 8 step finish matching all our other furniture and beds.

Sleigh Chest of Drawers

This very solid and reassuringly heavy chest of drawers was designed with the Lits en Bateaux sleigh bed in mind paired with the sleigh bedside cabinets but is chosen by many people to go with other beds in our range. A more contemporary design with deep drawers featuring dove tailed joints floating panel solid timber drawer base within a cabinet construction chassis.

As with all our furniture finished with our unique 8 step finish taking a week to complete and made from professionally kiln dried swietenia mahogany.

Note the secret top drawer and hand forged brass handles.

Single Queen Anne Four Poster

The Ultimate Princess bed the single Queen Anne

This beautiful four poster bed is taken from a Queen Anne design. It is hand built from quality hardwoods using many traditional techniques. There is detailed hand carving on the headboard and footboard with ball and claw traditional feet. The results are a very solid bed true to the original design and build techniques with classic features.

Like the Lits en Bateau this is a design that has been reproduced in varying ways and quality to help you see the differences we have listed them below.

Some are lighter in weight using less wood. The Heirloom Queen Anne is a very substantial reassuringly heavy and very solid bed.
Posts are often constructed using round dowels, square dowels would be better but this is more difficult and time consuming. Heirloom Beds use a 12mm narrow thread steel bolt on each post ensuring solid strong construction without movement.

No corners are cut in producing the Heirloom Queen Anne Single Four Poster. It is finished to a mahogany or champagne colour, with our week long polished numerous times to give a hard finish (see our 8 step finish) that will not fade and wears well with time.

Whilst we can source for less it is our firm belief that our success relies upon quality and value.

Hand carved, spacious 3-drawer bedside with hand forged brass handles which can be allowed to age and tarnish.

Louis Bedside (Pair)

2-drawer bedside handmade and finished in the Louis style with mounted filigree and handles carved into the drawer fronts, best suited to the Louis bed.

The Monarch

Much like the Matfen but with flat woven chenille cover with a pure new lamb's wool layer noticeably heavier as a result and only £20 more often you will find lambs wool and natural fibres jumps prices significantly.

Wool unlike silk and cashmere has a higher regain figure of 18% this is it's ability to absorb and distribute / lose moisture which promotes dry and comfortable sleeping conditions. Silk is about 12% not as good and used we feel to 'sell off the label' sounds good but not necessarily so!

Made from swietenia mahogany from sustainable plantations started by the Dutch centuries ago.
