This is one of only two reproduction beds we stock taken from a Queen Anne design requiring over 12 weeks man hours to hand carve from the highest quality strain of Mahogany - Swietenia.
Certainly not a bed you would want to beeswax 3 times a year with all that carving applying is the easy part buffing off a lot more difficult especially with this degree of carving our Queen Anne needs nothing more than dusting and household polish.
As with all our furniture traditional cabinet chassis construction incorporating mortise tenon, butterfly, mitre joints and floating panels are used.
The strength of the bed and the most important area is the base or lower area the stronger you make this the better. This is why the posts constructed as part of the base and footboard and then separated just below the barley twists.
Typically a round wood dowel is used to re-connect the posts this how ever permits rotational movement and often has play in the contact.
This is why Heirloom Beds have incorporated narrow thread 12 mm steel bolts with to the posts as opposed to round wood dowels more commonly used this is integral to keeping the strength within the bed.
Also the Heirloom Bed Queen Anne four poster uses twin male/female brackets at each corner with a custom made bolt retained within the bed avoiding it going through the footboard covered by a brass plate.
Finials at the top are removable for those with low ceiling heights or if you prefer a different look to your fourposter.
Do consider the solid timber roof upholstered with damask embroidered silk it’s unique to Heirloom Beds and gives a totally different look and luxurious sleeping experience.
