The Heirloom Sleigh Bed is traditionally made using cabinet furniture methods, hand carved only from non indigenous sustainable Swietenia mahogany better known as 'Brazilian mahogany' (please see our timber page more info) you will find hand carved scrolls, curved sides, floating panels in the footboard and headboard.
No shortcuts are taken in producing the Heirloom single French Sleigh Bed. Using the same techniques timber and the same 20 step finish taking 13 days to complete as with all of our furniture. This means the grain and character of our beds and furniture is showcased and brought forward giving a huge ‘Wow’ factor and unrivalled protection of your investment requiring little more care than dusting with household polish.

The Heirloom Beds finish costs us approximately 5 times as much as wax and a week to complete.
It means that we can never offer the cheapest mahogany sleigh bed or the cheapest four poster beds (though we are still lower than most) but it does mean we offer unrivalled value and quality sleigh beds, four poster beds.
The real reason is because manufacturers do not do it any other way; it is the finish of choice driven by production limitations and primarily costs. As the quickest and cheapest method it is the standard across virtually every other website selling mahogany furniture.
1. A wax finish does not seal timber and allows greater moisture fluctuations.
2. Flattens grain and character.
3. Wax finished furniture requires bees waxing 3 times a year which is hard work.
We have gone to great efforts to have our beds photographed in detail the beds you see are ours and are exactly what you will receive. We do encourage visiting our showroom but if you can not then we can send you a sample piece of wood showing you the timber and quality of our finish.
