Becoming ever more popular this style particularly associated with the reign of King Louis Philippe.
As with all our furniture the classic Lits en Bateaux or French Sleigh Bed is traditionally crafted, hand carved from select non indigenous plantation (seasoned and kiln dried to 8%) Swietenia mahogany 'Brazilian mahogany' rather than Lauan Almon, Mayapis or khaya etc- please see our home page for further information.

This is a design produced to varying degrees of quality finish and strains of Mahogany. No corners are cut in producing the Heirloom Lits en Bateaux. Our sleigh bed has the same 8 step finish taking a week to complete as with the rest of our furniture, as opposed to the cheaper and quicker wax and stain process taking just hours which dominates the market place. This means the grain and character of our beds and furniture is showcased and drawn forward delivering huge ‘Wow’ factor and unrivalled protection of your investment for decades to come.

Our finish gives the timber a hard shell protecting against moisture fluctuations that can affect the structural integrity of any timber and does not require regular elbow grease intensive maintenance with bees wax.
Our finish and choice of mahogany means our beds and furniture do cost more to produce, but the results are dramatic both in appearance and longevity.

Here is evidence of the quality of manufacture and timber used in our beds. This is a side profile of a side rail from our French Sleigh Bed you can see four important features –
1. Our finish, clearly not wax.
2. 1 1/4 inch thick solid timber in just one part of the rail.
3. Depth of colour in the timber itself revealing mature timber
4. Use of the technique opposing grain directions minimising movement.
Available in Mahogany and Walnut stain - our finish is well beyond that of the wax finish regardless of the sheen it may be buffed to, let us show you and request a sample.
