Our Sleigh Bed is traditionally constructed using cabinet joints, hand carved from non indigenous plantation Swietenia mahogany 'Brazilian mahogany' 'more info' incorporating hand carved scrolls, butterfly joints, mortice & tenon, floating panels in the foot and headboard there are no veneers, softwood ply or MDF materials anywhere in the bed that you may be used to seeing on the high street.
The french sleigh is 1 of 2 reproduction designs it is produced to varying degrees of quality and finish by manufacturers, nocorners are cut in producing our Lits en Bateaux sleigh. This bed shares the same 20 step finish taking 13 days to apply as you will find on our mahogany and walnut finished furniture.
The depth of grain and character of our beds is showcased (its what finishers call a 'picture') and drawn forward delivering huge ?Wow? factor and unrivalled protection of your investment for decades to come. Bees waxed furniture is simply stained and polished basically the more sheen or 'doff' you require the more wax you add and more you buff with a lambswool pad.
You can spend a few hours waxing or several days but it will never seal the timber, will not give you a finishers 'picture' it will also will require waxing and polishing off (the hard part) a few times each year.
Pictured is evidence of the quality of manufacture and timber used in our sleigh beds. This is a side profile of a side rail from our French Sleigh Bed you can see four important features ?
- Our 20 step finish, certainly not beeswax.
- 1 1/4 inch thick solid timber in just one part of the rail.
- Depth of colour in the timber itself revealing mature timber
- Use of the technique opposing grain directions counter acting movement the same technique used in door construction.
