A beautiful yet very sturdy bed with a ‘shabby chic’ painted distressed cream finish, a very feminine antique French inspired addition to our range of sleigh beds.
To us what a bed looks like is just as important as how it is made and what from. Beneath the antique cream finish as the Belle Lille sleigh bed is made from seasoned and kiln dried to 6-8% solid Swietenia mahogany.
Hand made and carved details as well as hand finished.
From a picture on the web it is hard to appreciate what it takes to get to the finish on our beds including the Belle Lille perhaps as far as you are concerned cream is cream. We have specified an intensive process in the finish which is detailed below, you will note from our pictures our finish is distressed, the typical distressed look you find on the high street is achieved by allowing a prime colour to dry and then wiping areas of the second coat off with a sponge when still wet.
As far as we are concerned this is not genuine distressing. Our process incorporates methods centuries old involving skilled use of a cat of nine tails with randomly shaped metal objects attached to the tails and the furniture is effectively whipped. In addition weuse blocks of glass which we use to scrape distressed features. This technique is applied to the raw timber as well as throughout the hand applied paint process so we 'age the ageing'.
