This is not a bed you would want to beeswax 3 times a year! As with all our beds and furniture traditional cabinet chassis construction incorporating mortise tenon, butterfly, mitre joints and floating panels used in addition to the intricate carved detail and beautiful tapered barley twist posts. Bear in mind if you took for example a cardboard box and removed every side including the bottom its going to be unstable this is why historically many four poster beds were fixed to the wall behind the headboard, this is why the Heirloom Beds four posters are engineered differently. The strength of the bed and the most important area is the base or lower area the stronger you make this the better. This is why the posts are fixed to the base and footboard and then separated just below the barley twists. Typically a round wood dowel is used to re-connect the posts this how ever permits rotational movement and often has play in the contact. This is why Heirloom Beds have incorporated narrow thread 12 mm steel bolts with to the posts as opposed to round wood dowels more commonly used this is integral to keeping the strength within the bed. Also the Heirloom Bed Queen Anne four poster uses twin male/female brackets at each corner with a custom made bolt retained within the bed avoiding it going through the footboard covered by a brass plate.Finials at the top are removable for those with close ceiling heights or preference in the final look of your bed. The Queen Anne is a reproduction design and therefore offered by many, some cost more some less but we are confident that the Heirloom Bed Queen Anne offers the best value currently available on the web. Do consider the solid timber roof upholstered with damask embroidered silk it's unique to Heirloom Beds and gives a totally different look and luxurious sleeping experience.
